Fraudsters have targeted Ukrainian families in Inverclyde with a fake summer craft fete scheme, according to the founder of the Inverclyde Ukrainian Club.
Marina Gorbunova said the club accepted an invitation to take part in a bogus event at Greenock Town Hall, arranging volunteers for a stall before discovering it was an elaborate ruse.
The 'event organisers' pressured the group to hand over £60 and bank details, but the Bank of Scotland blocked the transfer and warned of a suspicious account.
Gorbunova, a former insurance broker, said: 'It makes me so angry that they would abuse our trust like this. I just want to warn other people. I don't want it to happen to anyone else.'
Around 200 Ukrainians have settled in Inverclyde since fleeing the war. The club, based in the Dutch Gable House, runs events and collects art donations for Ukraine.
