Without a warrant, residents can ask inspectors to leave. Inspectors may use detection equipment if they suspect an offence, and interviews are conducted under caution in line with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.
Interviewees have the right to remain silent, can request a lawyer, and may refuse to sign the record of interview or request changes if they disagree.
