WILLIAMSPORT -- Pennsylvania College of Technology will begin offering the final four semesters of its bachelor's degree in heating, ventilation & air conditioning engineering technology online this fall, in partnership with a National Science Foundation-funded initiative.
The online option supports the Environmentally Applied Refrigerant Technology Hub (EARTH), a $26 million NSF program led by the University of Kansas and five other research universities to develop sustainable refrigerants and equipment.
The program allows working HVAC technicians with associate degrees to complete a bachelor's degree from anywhere. Coursework includes system design, controls, energy and project management, as well as business skills like estimating and quality control.
The 61 credits can be completed in two years of full-time study or part time. The on-campus option remains available.
Ellyn A. Lester, assistant dean of construction and architectural technologies, said the pathway helps technicians become engineers who will design systems and apply new refrigerants for a sustainable HVACR future.
