Bhubaneswar: Odisha Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari on Monday said floodwaters have started receding in most areas, but directed district administrations to keep affected residents in relief centres until water completely drains from villages.
Pujari said 22 of 30 districts were affected, covering 85 blocks, 656 gram panchayats, and 1,458 villages. A total of 8,63,909 people were affected, of whom 2,67,301 were evacuated to safer locations.
Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling on July 30 announced special measures for maternal care and emergency medical aid, focusing on safe evacuation of pregnant women and addressing rising snakebite cases. A review committee headed by the Health Principal Secretary has been constituted.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the government is committed to assisting every affected family. An assistance package of Rs 110 crore has been announced, with Rs 26 crore already provided. Rescue operations by ODRAF, NDRF, and fire brigades are underway, with food, water, and fodder being supplied.
